Training and retraining for today's employees - the Continuing Education Department understands the need to train and retrain today's work force. The College provides companies with training programs to keep employees up-to-date and informed on new technologies and has a wide range of programs designed to improve business productivity and quality.

Adult & continuing education - are held at all locations, including courses such as computers, GED testing, literacy, business, sign language, creative writing, parenting, foreign languages and more.

Employee training - Iowa's unique job training programs can provide any training services required by a business for new employees. Training services can be customized and, by combining resources from Iowa's New Jobs Training Program and the Job Training Partnership Act, the amount of funding available for training can be stretched.

The Iowa New Jobs Training Program provides funds for:

  • Screening, skills assessment and testing.
  • Travel for new employees for training, anywhere in the world.¥ On-the-job training reimbursement up to 50% of the new employees' wages during the training period.
  • In-plant instruction by company instructors.
  • Costs of training, equipment, materials and supplies.

The program is paid for by the revenues generated by a firm's investment in Iowa, specifically, from the company's portion of the new employees' withholding tax. These taxes, that the company would normally pay over a ten-year period, are diverted to pay for the up-front training. The up-front training is reimbursed through the sale of certificates (bonds) which are secured by these taxes.

The Job Training Partnership Act is a federally funded training program. The program provides on-the job training reimbursement of 50% of each eligible new workers' wages during the training period. These funds are available in addition to the above Iowa New Jobs Training Program reimbursements.
