"In
1995, Harlan joined an elite group of technologically advanced
communities in the nation when Harlan Municipal Utilities
wired Harlan with fiber optic and coaxial cable. Every home, business,
school, hospital and governmental entity is able to access a superior
high-speed network within the City and out to the World.
It's
the stuff of fairy tales told by futurists -- an entire city wired into
an infrastructure capable of delivering a wide array of high tech
services into offices and homes alike.
Fiber in the Loop technology allows
high speed access to rural and city businesses that need today's
technology to compete in the world marketplace.
Redundant Route Fiber Optics with SONET
(Synchronous Optical Network) serve all of the towns in the county with
High Speed Data Access and connect diverse route fiber optics to Omaha,
Sioux City and Des Moines.
The
hub of the new utility-owned cable system features 63 channels and cable
modem access for nearly every home and business. The County has six Iowa Communication Network fiber optic cable rooms.
