Local Telephone Access

"One of the most highly competitive counties in the U.S."

The telephone monopolies of the 80's and 90's are extinct in Shelby County.  In fact, Harlan, has three phone companies competing for local telephone service.  All three offer a wide variety of services at very competitive prices.

Throughout the county 100% digitally switched calling is available as well as dozens of state-of-the-art calling features including wireless, cellular (Cellular One, Verizon and FMCTC Wireless) and an outstanding selection of calling features.

Farmers Mutual Cooperative Telephone Co. offers local service to much of Shelby County.  Their Community Phone, used in tandem with existing local telephone service, offers the use of a compact portable phone allowing you to make and receive calls inside and outside their nearly 30-mile coverage area.
Harlan Municipal Utilities offers local telephone and long distance service to Harlan with a variety of home and business packages as well as companion discounts on their cable TV and Internet products.
Iowa Telecom offers local and long distance service to four Shelby County cities.  The company provides local telephone service to nearly 300 Iowa communities and employs more than 650 telecommunication professionals.

Marne Elk Horn has grown into a leading local provider serving not only Elk Horn, but six other area communities.
