The over 3,300 miles of fiber optic lines that blanket Iowa make up a statewide fiber optics network called the Iowa Communications Network
(ICN) reaching into all 99 counties with over 750 sites and six in Shelby County
alone. |

| The Harlan Community Library ICN room is one of six sites in Shelby Co. to access this one-of-a-kind network and is rated one of Iowa's top 10 sites for use. |

The ICN provides authorized users full-motion interactive video services to hospitals, state and federal government, public defense armories, libraries, schools, and higher education.
The ICN is used for K-12 and College Course access as well as medical access. The connection brings a wide range of educational and State sponsored activities from all over the
U.S.
