Commercial air service 
Eppley Airfield is the area's regional airport of choice for Iowa, Nebraska and portions of South Dakota, Minnesota, Missouri and Kansas. Commercial air freight 
Eppley Airfield provides all major air services to the greater Omaha/Western Iowa region. Located within a 40-55 minutes from Shelby County, carriers include Airborne, BaxGlobal, Emory, Fed Ex, SuburbanAir and UPS.

Local air service 
Shelby County is served by the Harlan Municipal Airport offering a 4,100' asphalt and concrete runway (75' width) allowing access to United Express, business jets, turbo props as well as large twin planes. A new Automatic Weather Observation Service (AWOS) was installed in July 1999.

Land-based freight services 
Freight - Shelby County is served by 20 freight carriers and is the home of Panama Transfer who offer fast and reliable freight service and connections throughout the greater midwest. Harlan is also a terminal site for nationally known, Yellow Freight. 

Rail - Shelby County is served by the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad with daily switching capabilities. 

Parcel Post 

• Airborne Express - Monday - Friday, next day delivery. Freight must leave no later than 4 p.m. for next day delivery. 

• Federal Express - Monday - Saturday, next day delivery. Freight must leave no later than 1 p.m. for next day delivery. 

• United Parcel Service - Monday - Saturday, next day delivery. Freight must leave no later than 4:30 p.m. to get next day delivery. 

• United States Postal Services - with offices in every Shelby County city.

Interstate highways 
Interstate 80 (east/west U.S. route) adjoins Shelby County. 
Interstate 35 (north/south U.S. route) is 60 minutes east from the county. Interstate 29 (north/south U.S. route) is 30 minutes west of the county.

Public Transportation Provider
Southwest Iowa Transit Agency provides public transportation to every town in the 8 counties of SW IA including: Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby.
They provide over 245,000 rides annually to the residents of these communities.
